Heather M. Truog, OTD, OTR/L, PYT, CLC, PMH-C
doctor of occupational therapy
trauma informed pelvic floor therapist | certified professional yoga therapist | certified lactation counselor | perinatal mental health - certified
Hi, I'm Heather – an authentic messy human, a fellow woman, a military spouse, a mother to two rambunctious amazing boys, a daughter, a dog lover, and so much more. I'm on this journey of health and wellness with all of you, and it is my honor to share with this community the breadth of my knowledge and specialized skills in the niche area of Women's Health. For me this is not just a practice -- it's a purpose. This work is my IKIGAI.
I have been a board certified occupational therapist for 17 years, with a practice rooted in trauma recovery, neuromuscular re-education, and acute on chronic conditions. With a post-professional doctorate in the science of occupation, I draw upon my extensive knowledge of complex body systems, movement science, psychology, social wellbeing, and the habituation of human behavior to help my clients THRIVE despite the most complicated situations they find themselves in.

I am deeply passionate about giving women the tools they need to feel confident and successful in their journey of life – especially during the life altering transition of motherhood. If we set the mother up for success, she thrives. And then her whole family thrives too.
After giving birth to my first son in 2019, I realized more than ever just how little we as women are empowered to understand about our own bodies -- at every stage -- let alone how to heal and optimize our performance to feel good. I have walked my own path with traumatic injury, chronic pain, pregnancy loss, perinatal anxiety, and a wildly erratic nervous system... I understand deeply.
When I opened Modern Alchemy in 2021, I thought I knew exactly what this practice would be. But it has grown. Evolved. Changed. All to better meet my client's needs. I have grown and evolved as a clinician as well. When I am not client facing, I am also a contributing faculty member at the University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences, teaching Women's Health Across the Lifespan in a post-professional doctoral program, I donate my time to mentor doctoral capstone students in their clinical research interests related to women's health, and I (slowly) chip away at my own research and writing efforts within academia. This is my life's work.
As a provider, I can never promise perfect outcomes to every client I see, but I do promise that I will deeply listen to your experiences, I will honor your stories, and I will provide you with the tools you need to take control of your wellness and thrive during this journey of life.
